HOPE School of Leadership is an online Christian university for young men and women who are capable, motivated learners and would benefit from an alternative to the traditional university system. HOPE School combines the best of online learning, the flexibility of mobile technologies and a strong relationship between teacher and students, to offer a two-year diploma in 21st Century Christian Leadership.
Our mission is to engage, challenge and equip young men and women to lead a life of Christian service within their families, their communities and their chosen profession. We strive to provide students with the knowledge, skills and passion to continue their learning and improve their opportunities for finding meaningful work upon graduation from HOPE School. We hope to empower students to study globally with the purpose of leading locally.
We believe that the answers to Africa's future development lies within its own young people. HOPE School is proudly African, even though it represents a collection of international partners. As students work through our diploma program, they learn to see themselves as problem solvers and social innovators. By using local resources and bringing people together, our students learn to unite, restore and lead the communities in which they live.

Applications for new students are open all year, but we only conduct new student intakes a few times per year. New student intake/orientation programs run during the months of April, August, and December. Please click the link below to complete a student application and tell us a little about yourself. New applicants will be enrolled in an online Orientation Course that is meant to ease students into the rhythm of completing weekly assignments and working in an online environment. The orientation course is where we'll get to know you better and you'll meet the other students who will be learning alongside you. HOPE School is ready to help prepare you for a life of Christian service within your family, your community and your chosen profession.

The HOPE School HUB is our home base, located in Nairobi, Kenya. The HUB is open to all HOPE School students and alumni. The HUB provides the perfect meeting place, providing free Wi-Fi, coffee, tea, and snacks. It's a fantastic location for a quiet place to work on class assignments, or to meet for lively group discussions and networking events. The HUB is available during the week and by appointment on the weekend. It's always best to contact Paul ahead of time so that he can make sure that it's open when you need it. You are welcome!

Metaphors for Learning
Metaphors matter. We REJECT many of the common metaphors people assign to education and learning. For example . . .
"The job of the teacher is to pour knowledge into the students’ cup (mind)."
INSTEAD, we believe learning involves much more than content transmission.
"Students are blank slates or empty vessels waiting to be filled."
INSTEAD, they come to us with unique qualifications and a past that has shaped their beliefs, values, and behaviors.
"Knowledge is power."
INSTEAD, the real power is in wisdom: the ability to apply and use knowledge effectively.
"Students are infants needing to be spoon fed."
INSTEAD, we expect much more of our students from the beginning, and challenge them every step of the way.
"Learning happens sitting in a classroom."
INSTEAD, we know learning can happen anywhere, and some of the best learning happens outside of a classroom.
These metaphors focus on two ideas we reject: that learning is passive rather than active, and that learning’s purpose is to know a lot of information. Instead, we believe that learning is an active process with a purpose for transformation of the student and the world.
Learning is a journey.
Occasionally we travel alone; more often, we travel with others. We learn from each other along the way. We point out discoveries along the path. We follow ideas to see where they lead us. We practise new skills to make the journey better. Knowledge is tested and put into practice. Our instructors may have travelled some of these paths before, but they recognize there are still parts of the journey they haven’t experienced, sights they haven’t seen, and skills they haven’t mastered. Every traveller has something to offer the others.
When learning is a journey, then it isn’t confined to a classroom. When learning is a journey, we build relationships together, learn how to relate and work with others, and help one another survive and thrive. The different paths of each traveller merge together for a short time. Each person has travelled a different path to reach HOPE School and their journey has shaped their beliefs, personalities, and behaviors. As we journey together, we get to know one another and help prepare each other for the journey ahead ... because in two short years, our paths will diverge again.
Everyone wears lenses. Try on new ones.
Every person views the world, knowledge, the Bible, faith, relationships, family, learning, and ... well, everything ... through their own unique lens. Sometimes the lenses we look through are similar to others. Sometimes there are distortions between them. The tint of one’s glasses may be different from the tint of another’s. The magnification of yours may be less than mine. The first step is to recognize that each one of us views the world through our own, personal lens. We must learn how our lenses work and why they ended up that way.
In the learning process, we also want to also offer new lenses. We want to invite students to recognize their lenses, but also to take them off for a few minutes and try on another pair of lenses to see how they fit and how they help bring clarity (or distortion!) to the world around us. Trying out new lenses and ways of looking at the world – in how we deal with information, facts, theories, and contexts – is foundational for transformative learning.
