Want to be a mentor? We are looking for a few good volunteers to become online mentors for our students. A mentor is someone who can promise a few hours a week to log in to our course management system, check on his/her student's progress and simply offer encouragement. We hope that our mentors will be willing to 'friend' their students on Facebook and stay well connected via email and/or text messaging.
We think you can do it. |
We expect that mentors will be willing to participate in online discussions, provide constructive feedback and commit to praying regularly for their students. Even though our students are highly motivated and responsible, they may still run into difficulties and hardships, since life in Kenya can be tough and sometimes unforgiving. Our students will benefit from having an attentive partner, a caring advocate and a trusty sidekick.
You'll notice two things that did not make the list above. You do NOT need to have advanced technology skills to be an online mentor. If you can use email and Facebook, you are qualified. Our course management system is very easy to navigate and you'll have support, just like our students do. You do NOT need to be a subject area expert to be an online mentor. The course instructor will be responsible for creating and grading assignments; a mentor's job is part cheerleader, part tour guide, and part friend.
